The Terry and Karl Lance
April Fools Parody Archive
(1990-1993)

The University of Windsor's student newspaper The Lance had a tradition of parodying another publication for April Fools. The trick was to make it not only funny, but try to make it look just like the real thing. This wasn't an easy thing to accomplish in the days before Photoshop, $70 600 DPI scanners, and True Type fonts. We had to make do with a fridge-sized statcam, a photocopier, a 640K IBM PC running DOS 3.3 and Ventura 1.0 DTP software, and a bunch of dull exacto knives.

Between 1990 and 1993, Terry and I turned out four April Fools parodies for The Lance. They were probably the best back-to-back-to-back-to-back parody publications ever turned out by a Canadian campus newspaper. It's taken me a while, but thanks to a providential round of layoffs at my dot.com and a tight and tidy severance package (paid in American dollars), I've finally managed to find the time to scan in and make available our parody issues over the web. Enjoy.
