Windsor was not only highly isolated from provincial and federal goings-on but things had to get pretty bad in B.C. (or the Canucks had to come pretty close to beating the Red Wings in the NHL playoffs) before any news about Canada's Lotus Land filtered down to Windsor.

Terry wrote this one as well. Terry was always a big fan of Roman gladiator humor.

The line about "This tin of albacore has so much dolphin in it, it's the third most intelligent canned good in the world" still cracks me up today.

The article's author, Alan Halberstadt, used to be the Windsor Star's editorial columnist. He quit (or was asked to quit) under rather hazy circumstances. He tried to start up some kind of cheesy weekly paper in competition with the Star but it quickly tanked after about one issue.
